A Case Study with WFAA Dallas
Joining Forces in Real Time
“Chartbeat starts the conversation. It’s there telling you things you need to know right now.” - Douglass Boehner, Operations Manger, WFAA.com
-
THE GOAL
Support WFAA-Dallas in integrating its digital and on-air teams for more cohesive coverage and collaboratively-generated content.
-
THE OPPORTUNITY
Before Chartbeat was incorporated into the newsroom’s workflow, WFAA’s original analytics programs required creating and printing reports of old data that only sometimes made it to the TV in time for the midday news show. For obvious reasons, that wasn’t working — so they wanted something new.
-
THE RESULT
WFAA-Dallas accesses real-time data that allows its teams to collaborate in ways like never before to share and promote the stories their audience cares about. By incorporating Chartbeat, a typical online-TV integrated workflow might start off with a story that spikes on their dashboard. The digital team promotes the spiking story through social media, sparking tweets and Facebook comments. The on-air team then picks up the story, adds it to the evening broadcast, and even incorporates online comments in the feature.
